Matthew M. Rolain, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist with extensive training in diseases of the eye, including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease. He performs comprehensive medical eye exams and also offers the latest technology in cataract surgery, including laser-assisted cataract surgery and premium intraocular lens options.

Dr. Rolain received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Hope College and received his Medical Degree at Wayne State University, where he graduated with High Distinction. Additionally, he earned the Class of 2020 Academic Achievement Award and the Elvis Smith Alford MD and Nellie Corbin Alford Endowed Memorial Scholarship. After finishing his internship year at the University of Virginia Internal Medicine Department, Dr. Rolain completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia. During his time there,
he earned the UVA Ophthalmology Academic Excellence Award and served as Chief Resident during his final year.
In 2023, he received the VSEPS (Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons) Thomas Frey MD Award for Best Resident Research Presentation. He has been a contributing investigator on several articles published in medical journals and has presented at numerous scientific meetings.
Dr. Rolain is on staff at Clarkston Surgery Center, Corewell Health William Beaumont Royal Oak University Hospital, and Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital.

Dr. Rolain is proud to follow in his father’s footsteps and carry on the tradition of providing excellent eye care to the community. Outside of work, Dr. Rolain enjoys spending time with his wife, daughters, and pet dog. Some of their favorite activities include golfing, games, music, baking, and cheering on the Lions!
